Hepatitis B Vaccination
Hepatitis B is a serious and most common liver infection caused by Hepatitis B virus. It is caused by direct contact with the infected blood or body fluid, including having unprotected sex. According to the Health Promotion Board, around 1 in 35 adult Singaporeans are Hepatitis B carriers.
Risk factors associated with hepatitis B (HBV) infection are unprotected sex with an infected partner, unprotected sex with more than one partner, and history of other STIs. HBV is also endemic in South-East Asia therefore vaccination is recommended for the general population.
We recommend hepatitis B immunisation for all unvaccinated adults presenting to a STI clinic. Patients with a history of HBV vaccination should have either documentation of immunisation or serologic testing for hepatitis B surface antibody.
If you do not have antibodies from a previous infection and if you are not a Hepatitis B carrier, you should get vaccinated against Hepatitis B and protect yourself from its complications.
The vaccine is safe. It is also extremely effective provided you complete all 3 doses:
- First dose: at the date you and your doctor or healthcare provider choose
- Second dose: 1 month after the first dose
- Third dose: 5 months after the second dose
If you miss a dose, seek advise from your doctor or healthcare provider on an appropriate time to receive your missed dose.
The cost of Hepatitis B vaccination at our clinic is $70 per dose.
One dose is required for Hepatitis B booster vaccination.
Three doses over six months are required for full Hepatitis B vaccination, if you have not been previously vaccinated.
